Afghan-American author Tamim Ansary discusses the epic, tragic (yet sometimes even slightly comic) story of Afghanistan from the inside looking out, as chronicled in “Games Without Rules.” Ansary addresses the $64,000 question: why does every great power going into Afghanistan, including the United States, make the same mistakes and come to grief in much the same way? What accounts for this historical amnesia? Ansary was born and raised in Afghanistan. His books include “West of Kabul, East of New York,” “Destiny Disrupted, A History of the World Through Islamic Eyes,” and “The Widow’s Husband.”
