Please join us on Friday, May 9th in our backyard to hear readings by friends of Essex Flowers Keith J Varadi, Lucy Ives, and Andrew Durbin. We are also pleased to simultaneously host the book launch for FAN OF: JOSHUA SMITH by Bunk Club, coinciding with "Monocrime" a recent exhibition including Essex Flower's Joshua Smith at Brussels's Albert Baronian Gallery.
This event is free and open to the public.
KEITH J VARADI
Keith J. Varadi is an artist, writer, and curator currently based in Los Angeles. He received his MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and his BFA from Rutgers University. He has exhibited his work and the work of others at various international venues, performed mainly on the East Coast, and published most of his writing primarily on the Internet.

LUCY IVES
Lucy Ives was born in New York City and earned her BA from Harvard College and her MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Her first collection, the book-length poem Anamnesis (2009), won the Slope Editions Book Prize. She is also the author of the “brief novel” Nineties (2013) and a poetry and essay collection, Orange Roses (2013). Ives won an Iowa Arts Fellowship, as well as a MacCracken Fellowship. She is a deputy editor at Triple Canopy and lives in New York City, where she is completing a PhD in comparative literature at New York University. In February 2014, Ives was a featured writer for Harriet.

ANDREW DURBIN
Andrew Durbin is the author of Mature Themes (Nightboat Books 2014). A novella, Spliffy, is forthcoming from Snacks Press this July. His work has appeared in BOMB, Boston Review, Fence, Mousse, Triple Canopy, and elsewhere. He is the Talks Curator at the Poetry Project, co-edits Wonder, and lives in New York.

JOSHUA SMITH
Joshua Smith is a Brooklyn based artist. His work is regularly exhibited internationally, with exhibitions at White Columns, Artists Space, Anton Kern, Nicole Klagsbrun, Art Production Fund, Albert Baronian, Essex Flowers, Clifton Benevento, Southfirst, John Connelly Presents, Eleven Rivington, MoMA PS1, and the Journal Gallery. He is, along with several other young artists, a cofounder of Essex Flowers, an exhibition space on the Lower East Side, and was a founder, with Denise Kupferschmidt, of Apartment Show, an itinerant series of exhibitions that took place in New York from 2009 to 2010.

BUNK CLUB
Bunk Club is an art initiative founded in Brussels by curator Laurence Dujardyn and Mathias Wille. Under the header of Bunk Club we aim to combine curatorial strategies with the active promotion and support of emerging artists. Our interest goes to artistic practices which are representative or critical of highly topical movements in society and culture. In the active sense, art which attempts to distort or contradict existing realities and principles.
