Ruth Milkman is a sociologist who has written on a variety of topics involving work and organized labor in the United States, past and present. Recent projects include a study of California’s pathbreaking paid family leave program, and research on low-wage immigrant workers’ employment conditions as well as the dynamics of immigrant labor organizing. Her book ON GENDER, LABOR, AND INEQUALITY will be published later this spring. She is a Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the CUNY Graduate Center and at the Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies, where she teaches Labor Studies and also serves as Research Director. She is also the current President of the American Sociological Association.
