Marianne Weems is the artistic director of The Builders Association and has directed all of theater’s productions since its founding two decades ago. They include such works as Jet Lag, Super Vision, Continuous City. In the past, she has worked with Susan Sontag, The Wooster Group, David Byrne, and many others. Weems is the former head of Graduate Directing in the School of Drama at Carnegie Mellon University, and is building their Integrative Media Program in NYC. She is the co-author of Art Matters: How The Culture Wars Changed America. A new book, The Builders Association: Performance and Media in Contemporary Theater, explores the company’s cutting-edge experimental productions working with advanced technologies, and visual design.
Art Work is a ongoing series that hosts innovative artists who speak about the artistic process on special evenings at Lang. Students gain access to the intimate workings of some of the most influential artists practicing in the city today. In an intimate setting, the artists detail their creative process, speak about new productions, and examine their most famous works.
The series is curated by Bonnie Marranca, professor of Theater at Eugene Lang College.
