Note: This event begins Friday April 15 11:35 am at Columbia University,  Lindsay Rogers Room, (707) International Affairs Building, which is located on the Morningside campus on West 118th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Avenue.

This year’s two-day Constellations conference will consider the relation between various forms of critical theory and post-colonialism, including how Marxism assessed colonialism and how neo-Marxists analyzed post-colonialism and the issue of critical theory and philosophies of history. The developments and alternatives within post-colonial societies and polities will be discussed and debated with an eye to recent literature on political forms initially available and roads not taken. Moreover, the conference will revisit the question of democracy; law and constitutionalism in post-colonial contexts; as well as the issues of migration and citizenship triggered by decolonization and globalization.

Faculty presenters include: Sudipta Kaviraj, Columbia University, George Steinmetz, University of Michigan, Antonio Y. Vázquez-Arroyo, Rutgers University, Ann Stoler, New School for Social Research, Maribel Casas-Cortes and Sebastian Cobarrubias, University of North Carolina, Paulina Ochoa Espejo, Haverford College, Manu Goswami, New York University, Patrick Macklem, University of Toronto, David Wilkins, University of Minnesota Law School, Emmanuelle Saada, Columbia University, Jakeet Singh, Illinois State University, Susan Buck-Morss, City University of New York, Adom Getachew, University of Chicago.
